As a special free event for Heritage Open Days 2026, David Seeney explores the remarkable story of the sinking of the Birkenhead in 1852 and what happened to the passengers on board which became the stuff of legend. Amongst those on board were around 60 members of the Sixth or (1st) Royal Warwickshire Regiment with their families.
David will be displaying original material related to the wreck of the Birkenhead to uncover individual stories of heroism and resilience.
The event is for one hour from 1:30pm to 2:30pm on the first floor of Pageant House. There is a stairlift availability for those with mobility issues and public toilets, including an accessible toilet and baby changing facility on site.
